Manoj Night Shyamalan, one of the best-known movie directors of Hollywood might have been missing for quite a while from the blockbuster arena, but with his new movie Split, he has been able to get back into the horror/suspense genre. Starting his career with the multi-million blockbuster Sixth Sense (online movies), Shyamalan went on to make a lot of movies but none of them would be able to elicit that audience reaction which his first movie did. It is this disappointing aspect that had led to a lot of people crowning him as a one-hit wonder, and the continued criticism for all is movies had left Manoj Night Shyamalan as a dejected person.
Yet, he went on to make movies with his own money, and although it would end up recuperating the production cost, at the end of the day, it was not what he wanted to do. Rather, he took on an ambitious project of Split, starring James McAvoy, that would not only be able to create thunderous applause in the theatres all over again, but it has been able to make back a lot of money which was originally lost by the director in other movies.
Split is a story about James McAvoy in a split personality disorder that has over 26 normal personalities and one dangerous personality. He ends up trapping three girls in a room, and from there the story progresses. The story in itself is something which you might consider to be nonchalant, and some cases could be bordering upon kidnapping. But the story is all about the personalities portrayed by James McAvoy, and how it would go about creating the impression that he has with these kidnapped girls. So, the story is interesting, but what is even more interesting is the suspense that it builds and the kind of editing and direction that has been done by Manoj in order to make it a movie worth watching.
Split has been given rave reviews by a lot of movie festivals across the world, and one can honestly say that this movie would go about resurrecting Manoj Night Shyamalan as a director that has held his own amongst a lot of other directors. When everybody put him down, the one thing that he did was to continue making movies, and went on to win the trust of producers worldwide. What Split has guaranteed is that we can get to see a lot of similarly thought out movies from Manoj, but this time with a bigger budget and a better marketing team in order to get proper exposure to the new movie.
